Our Story

"Not losing faith.

Although Trudy and Matt certainly had moments of frustration and thoughts of “it’s just not fair”, the couple feels truly blessed today.

“It’s not an easy journey, and there are so many emotions that come with it – good days and bad days. It takes a team – you, your spouse, your family, friends, doctor and of course GOD,” says Trudy. “So stand together, pray and have faith that at the right time, this can happen for you.”

Matt and Trudy’s Story

(Told by Trudy)

Matt and I first started trying to conceive in the summer of 2006. At that time, we had no idea the journey that was ahead of us. After all, no one in our families ever had trouble conceiving and we were both healthy. After the tragedy of my miscarriage in 2007, we soon realized that something might be wrong.

When we found out that I had fibroid tumors and that they were the cause of my issues with getting pregnant and later my miscarriage, we decided that we needed to seek the help of a fertility specialist. This was not an easy decision for us to make. We were scared and apprehensive to say the least. We went from thinking I was pregnant to quickly realizing that we were faced with challenges we never dreamed we would have to tackle.

Matt and I met with Dr. Anil Pinto and we knew he was the physician for us. He confirmed my diagnosis of fibroid tumors and recommended that I undergo a myomectomy to remove the fibroid tumors.

After the first surgery, it was only a few months later that we learned another fibroid tumor had appeared on my uterus. Rather than attempt another surgery, we elected to seek treatment through a drug proven to treat ovulation problems. Unable to have any success with the medicine, Matt and I decided to try IUI. After the failure of both non-surgical treatments, the realization came that the only hope we had of becoming pregnant was to undergo another myomectomy, and eventually proceeding to IVF.

I ended up having two myomectomy’s, both performed by Dr. Pinto, to remove fibroid tumors that rested on my uterus. Both surgeries came with many risks, one being a hysterectomy – the chance that we may never get pregnant. Emotional as it was at the time, we knew these surgeries had to be done in order to try at any chance to get pregnant.

Our first IVF procedure was performed in September 2009. While we received a positive first test, unfortunately, after a few weeks, the pregnancy did not take.

We transferred again in February 2010 and we were ecstatic to learn that one took! Each week was a blessing as we were able to see our baby grow into a healthy baby girl, whom we finally got to meet in November of 2010.

We knew we wanted to try for another child, but Matt and I wanted to enjoy all of our daughter’s “firsts” before attempting to become pregnant again with IVF treatments.

In the fall of 2011, we began the IVF process again as we knew all too well that it could take a while to get pregnant. We transferred in December 2011 and unfortunately, the embryo did not take. So we waited to begin the next cycle scheduled for March 2012. Much to our SURPRISE, the week before I was scheduled to begin the first steps of IVF, we found out I was pregnant. We could hardly believe that we had gotten pregnant on our own!

We felt incredibly blessed with this pregnancy and nine months later in November 2012, we met our second baby girl!

The scariest part of the entire process was the unknown—whether it was the results of my surgeries or the potential that all the treatments would fail. However, we never lost faith and are grateful to Dr. Pinto for helping us through some very difficult times.

Dr. Pinto and his staff treated us with grace and respect. What a comforting feeling it was to have a doctor personally return your phone calls. He even called to wish us congratulations while on his vacation! We connected with all the wonderful nurses and staff at the office and were always welcomed with warm smiles. They truly became part of our family. Dr. Pinto is an incredible physician with a huge heart.”
