About IUI
This type of artificial insemination involves the placement of cleaned sperm, either from the patient’s partner or a donor, directly into the uterus. Dr. Anil Pinto has a wealth of experience performing and administering IUI for patients at ReproMed Fertility Center, and can call upon this experience to help ensure the best chance for success.
What to Expect
The IUI procedure is performed at all of our center locations. This procedure is simple and associated with very little discomfort. Initally, you are asked to lay flat on an examination table. Once you feel comfortable and at ease, Dr. Pinto will start the treatment by inserting a speculum into your vagina, and then place a catheter tube into your uterus through the opening in your cervix. By attaching healthy sperm to the end of the catheter, then the cleaned specimen is carefully pushed through the catheter. Once the sperm reaches the inside of the uterus, the instuments are removed.
Once the treatment is finished, our staff encourages you to participate in your normal daily activities. In some cases, patients have experienced mild bleeding or spotting for a few days following the IUI treatment.
Qualified Candidates
Dr. Pinto most commonly prescribes IUI treatment for his Dallas Metroplex patients who have:
- Male Factor Infertility – Below-average sperm concentration, weak motility, or abnormal sized or shaped sperm can affect fertility.
- Cervical Factor Infertility – If the cervical fluid that is produced around the time of ovulation is too thick, it may hinder the sperm’s ability to swim.
- Semen Allergy – although rare, women can have an allergic reaction to the proteins in their partners semen, causing vaginal redness, burning, and swelling in the areas that have come into contact with the semen.
- Unexplained Infertility – Although our team of experts goes to great lengths to diagnose the cause of infertility, sometimes the problem cannot be explained or determined.
