IVF in Vitro Fertilization with Assisted Hatching

IVF in Vitro Fertilization with Assisted Hatching

Assisted Hatching_InVitroFertilizationThere are many treatments out there that can increase the chances of successful conception. One treatment that is especially effective is assisted hatching. It can greatly improve your chances of successful pregnancy, and it's actually an essential component of some fertility treatments. That said, many people are not sure what assisted hatching refers to or what it means to a patient.

When you visit our Dallas fertility clinic, we will be more than happy to answer all of your questions about assisted hatching. Let's take a moment right now, though, to answer some of the basics about the process and the treatment.

What does assisted hatching mean?

Assisted hatching means a special procedure that allows an embryo to hatch after fertilization. This assists the embryo's ability to implant to the lining of the uterus and develop as it normally would. The entire procedure is performed by a fertility specialist in Dallas in a lab setting.

Why is assisted hatching performed?

The outer layer of the embryo is known as the zona pellucida. Sometimes this outer layer is too thick, making it difficult for the embryo to hatch and attach itself to the uterine lining. By performing the assisted hatching procedure, the chances of successful fertility treatment are increased. It's for this reason that it is one of the more essential treatments for infertility.

How is assisted hatching performed?

The assisted hatching procedure is performed once the embryo has reached at least six or eight cell stages. A small hole is created in the zona pellucida to help with implantation during embryo transfer. This hole can be created by using a special instrument, a surgical laser, or a chemical. The exact method to create the hole in the zona pellucida will depend on the needs of the patient and the fertility specialist performing the procedure.

Practical Application of Assisted Hatching

Because assisted hatching can increase the possibility of successful implantation and pregnancy, it is commonly used as part of the in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure. IVF is a process in which eggs are fertilized in a lab setting to ensure proper fertilization.
